Goldeneye

As I uncover – Goldeneye – the third short story in the Michael Grey series – I hope you’re enjoying this advent calendar with a difference!

It’s been such a pleasure researching and writing these stories, focusing on nature and wildlife, while still immersing myself in my favourite decade – the 1960s!

I’d never heard of a goldeneye bird before researching this story and yet the chances are I’ve seen this pretty duck on many occasions without being able to put a name to a face, so to speak. Of course it makes sense that its name comes from its distinctive golden-yellow eyes and as we discover in this story, its nickname, derives from the whistling sound of its wings in flight.
